A pinch of scarlet red vermilion, a dapper groom and a beautiful bride looking resplendent in their wedding outfits in an extravagant wedding affair, lots of spicy food and loud music… This is what a Hindu wedding (Shaadi) is typically characterized by. Although Hindu weddings are known around the world for their glittering ceremonies and the grandeur with which they are celebrated, there’s a lot more to them. They are a union of two people and their families, cultures and values. They are an amalgamation of different rites and rituals based on the Holy Scriptures, all of which come together to make the betrothal official. Let's get an insight into the different customs and rituals of the big fat Indian wedding: Sagai or Mangni (Engagement) Ceremony Sagai or Mangni is often called the first step towards marriage and rightly so. It is the first formal announcement made by the bride and the groom that they have decided to tie the knot. Because this is an engagement ceremony, rings are exchanged between the bride and the groom. The couple (and especially the bride) is often showered with presents during the ceremony while their families chant Vedic mantras in the adoration of God, seeking his blessings. This beautiful ceremony is followed by a night full of dance, and maybe even a cocktail reception. Mehndi (Henna) Ceremony This pre-wedding reception is where all the women in the family apply henna on the bride’s arms, hands and feet in intricate, beautiful patterns. In the Hindu culture, henna signifies the strong bond of love – the darker the color of henna, the stronger is the bond of love. Sangeet Ceremony Next in line for fun Indian Wedding Formalities comes Sangeet. It’s a ceremony of fanfare and entertainment, where there’s an abundance of songs and dances, mostly revolving around the bride and groom and their wedding ceremony (as they should). In this fun ceremony, everyone in attendance gets on the dance floor and even the couple can be seen shaking their legs together every now and then. Haldi Ceremony In this ceremony, the family members of the soon-to-be-wed couple apply turmeric paste on the bride and groom’s face, hands and feet as a way to revere their lineage and purify their souls. Not to mention, by the virtue of its golden hue, Haldi also lends a divine glow to the bride and the groom for their big day. The Wedding Ceremony and the Pheras This is it. This is what all the pre-wedding ceremonies have been leading up to! In true fairytale fashion, the groom arrives at the venue on a white horse to take his bride away with him forever. On the big day, the bride embraces Solah Shringar (sixteen adornments) to dress herself. These adornments typically include kohl, anklets, bangles, the sacred and famed Indian Sari and other (often gold) jewelry. Once the stage is set, the couple performs Jaimala, in which they put garlands around each other’s necks as a mark of accepting each other. This is followed by the couple encircling the holy fire while the pundit (officiant) recites holy hymns in a ceremony called Pheras. The Pheras symbolize seven vows that tie the couple together eternally. Vidayi This is when the couple has tied the knot and the bride’s parents bid her farewell as she moves to her new home. Vidayi marks the beginning of the bride’s new life and is an extremely emotional moment for her and her parents, as she's leaving her home where she has grown and spent her entire childhood in their nurturing shadow. All of these Hindu ritual and traditions are accompanied by a lot of grandiose magnificence, dazzling colors, loud music and joyful celebrations. No wonder why all Hindu weddings, no matter in which part of the world they are being celebrated, are characterized by these interesting Hindu wedding rituals. Are you planning a Hindu wedding in Orlando and looking for a venue that’s as special as your big day itself? You’ll be satisfied by hosting your Indian Wedding in Hyatt Grand Cypress, Orlando and D' Space Orlando, new event venue "Coming Soon 2020". More and more brides today want their weddings to be unique and one-of-a-kind. It goes without saying that for a wedding that's in a class of its own, the venue must have a major dynamism and personality as well; something that goes beyond the ballroom and makes the wedding celebration the best it can be. No wonder why glamorous, unique and flat-out jaw-dropping industrial-chic wedding venues (revamped lofts, warehouses or factories) are dominating Pinterest boards and are on their way to become the hottest wedding trend in 2020. We’re 100% on board with Industrial-chic style wedding venues, but if you’re somehow not sold on them (YET), here are four reasons that might convince you otherwise. Industrial venues ooze character Exposed bricks, peeling paint, bare concrete walls, wood beam ceilings, visible pipes and cement floors do not exactly paint the picture of a desirable wedding venue, right? Well, that's true, but even such ostensibly unappealing details can ooze character and look strikingly stunning when paired with contemporary and minimal wedding décor. This interesting and rather unusual mix of rustic and modern, of raw structures and sleek, modern design is what an industrial-chic wedding venue is all about. You can add a personalized touch to your wedding When you pick an industrial venue for your nuptials, you have the freedom to put your own creative spin on your big day. Fancy bright red chairs? Throw them in. Planning on ditching fairy lights in favor of Edison bulbs? Go ahead. Want to say your ‘I do’s’ in front of exposed bricks, under an asymmetric ceremony arch? Or wish to add vintage rugs to your aisle and altar? Well, do whatever your heart says. You can create a light airy wedding reception, or an intimate warmly-lit space – whatever your style is, an industrial wedding venue can make it happen. They are just so… classy You may be under the impression that an industrial wedding style is only for the wildest, edgiest of couples, but it can actually make quite a sophisticated and chic statement with the right décor. The chic monochromatic color palettes of white, gray and black paired with mixed metals and cool concrete allow for a squeaky-clean aesthetic and exude a look of minimalistic elegance. For the maximum impact, the decorative pieces and other wedding items are to be kept simple and unadorned as well. A word of caution: Too much of monochromatic color palettes and metallic accents can make the venue appear gloomy and cold. We suggest adding an interior garden and throwing a few pops of colors here and there to balance things out and keep your venue looking all charming. Fun photo opportunities With an impressive, bare backdrop and abundant charm of an industrial space comes an excellent opportunity for an amazing wedding album. Industrial wedding venues have an urban-chic vibe and are buzzing with energy, which will surely be reflected in your wedding photographs. Just imagine how cool would your wedding photographs be if your wedding venue includes vaulted wooden and steel ceilings, factory windows and floors inlaid with tracks. So unconventional, so amazing! Contemporary industrial style wedding venues are not just a fad. They are here to stay. So, if you are looking for a non-traditional wedding venue to put your own personal stamp on your big day, look no further than an industrial wedding venue. Rest assured, the architectural personality of the space will provide for a perfect setting to create an event that will be reminisced about for a lifetime.
